Job in a paragraph We are looking for an experienced, capable analyst with wider career aspirations to join our underwriting team. You will enjoy using your existing analytical skills to manipulate our unique policy and claims data. As part of the wider underwriting team, we will encourage and support your development as an underwriter to understand the business model and present and leverage that analysis to obtain market leading insurance rates. You will be responsible for producing: Structured and regular scheme reporting at both high level and granular, segmented level. Ad hoc analysis to identify opportunities and risks. Post implementation reviews of recent changes to ensure they are delivering against expectations. The ideal candidate will be curious and look beyond the raw numbers to consider real world cause and effect. What behaviours you need to demonstrate: Numerate with an attention to detail - Good “eye” for detail and vigilance in producing accurate MI and analysis. Data-centric - A strong understanding and interest in the power of data, how it can be transformed into useful insight and an ability to draw out trends and patterns. Enterprising and dynamic - Curious, self-motivated, problem-solver, constantly looking for new opportunities and delivering continuous improvement. Engaging and persuasive - Works well with colleagues to explore opportunities, actively listens to others and is open-minded, and communicates ideas and processes effectively. Commercially aware - Desire to understand our business and use our data to make recommendations for improvement. How you know you’ve succeeded: Deliver regular business data and insight - Ensure that accurate MI is available to stakeholders on time and in a practical format. Flexible problem-solver - Working in a dynamic environment, overcome barriers and obstacles to deliver great results. Exploration, analysis and segmentation of performance to identify opportunities and emerging risks - Use forensic data analysis, multiple layered segmentation to identify over and under-performing segments and using that as evidence recommend appropriate action to protect or exceed agreed targets. Achieve sustainable results - You leverage unique data sources and work closely with our insurance partners to optimise performance. Additional information: The role has come about through successful long-term growth. You will report into Bennetts Head Underwriter who will support you in developing Underwriting skills to complement your existing analytical skills and experience. Capability, Knowledge and Experience: Underwriting experience is not required. Experience using data to create analytical value, interpreting results to identify and present insights and recommendations to improve performance. Good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel is needed and experience of any of: SQL, Tableau, Data Robot or other data tools is an advantage, but not necessary.
