An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic and innovative individual to work as a Upper GI Advanced Clinical Nurse Specialist (ACNS) within our newly developed GI Cancer nursing team, in the Surgical Directorate. We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced nurse who will embrace the challenge of this exciting and rewarding role.

We are looking for an individual who is highly motivated, enthusiastic, organised, compassionate, and reliable. As an effective core team member and clinical role model, you will contribute to the provision of the highest standard of personalised care and support to our patients, their families, and carers, from diagnosis, through treatment and future planning.

The post holder will provide resilience and support to the HPB cancer nurse specialist. There is an expectation that the post holder will provide support across the GI Cancer nursing service when required. This position will have shared responsibility for the delivery and transformation of an effective cancer service whose ethos aligns with that of organisational service transformation, local and national cancer strategies, and the safety and quality of patient experience.

ACNS must be a 1st level registered nurse with evidence of continuing professional development and relevant clinical experience in ideally cancer, palliative care, surgical, or HPB nursing. Evidence of master’s level learning, as well as completion of Clinical Examination and Non-Medical Prescribing modules with an enhanced communication qualification, would be essential. A Post Graduate Diploma in Advanced Practice and demonstrable evidence of clinical competence are required.

Applications are also welcomed from candidates who would be willing to undertake the annex 21 training, which in part includes the Post Graduate Diploma in Advanced Practice and associated clinical competence. On successful completion of the annex 21, candidates will transition to a fully qualified ACNS role. Individuals who meet the full requirements for the role of ACNS will commence on Band 7. Those applicants who are interested in developing into the role following the successful completion of academic qualifications will be remunerated in line with Agenda for Change Annex 21, based on current roles and experience. Trainees are paid a percentage of the pay band maximum for the qualified rate which is dependent on the duration of the training period (see Annex 21 Terms and Conditions).
