The Role: Key Responsibilities: As a UX Designer, you will play a pivotal role in defining and executing the user experience strategy for digital products and services within the public sector. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including visual designers, developers, and researchers, to create accessible, user-friendly services that meet both business and user needs. UX Strategy & Design: Help your team define the user experience strategy for various products and services. Work with stakeholders to ensure that designs meet both user needs and business objectives. Create wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity designs that effectively communicate design ideas. User Research & Testing: Collaborate with the research team to plan, conduct, and analyse user research and usability testing. Use insights from user research to inform design decisions and improve user experience. Lead or participate in review sessions to discuss the progress of projects and recommend improvements. Collaboration & Communication: Work closely with developers and other team members to ensure that designs are implemented accurately and effectively. Write clear design specifications, guidelines, and documentation for the development team. Ensure that designs are aligned with GOV.UK design principles and adhere to best practices in accessibility and usability. Prototyping & Iteration: Build prototypes and drafts to communicate your design ideas and iterate based on feedback. Develop solutions that balance user needs, business goals, and technical constraints. Continuous Improvement: Identify design problems and propose solutions to improve the overall user experience. Contribute to internal design reviews and take part in discussions to improve processes and standards. Key Skills & Experience: Government Experience GDS Assessment Experience Gov.UK Design Guidance Proven UX Design Experience Collaboration & Communication Tool Proficiency Desirable Skills: Experience with front-end technologies or development tools. Understanding of GDS Service Standards and Digital Services Playbook. Knowledge of accessibility best practices (WCAG, ARIA). Understanding of Heroku.
