Full-Time Job Summary: The Ventilation Systems Commissioning, Validation and Verification Engineer is responsible for assessing, commissioning, verifying, and maintaining ventilation systems within healthcare, research, and critical care environments. This role requires expertise in commissioning ventilation systems to ensure compliance with industry standards, optimizing system performance, and providing detailed technical recommendations for improvements. Key Responsibilities: Leadership and Team Management

Coordinate and supervise daily activities of the ventilation assessment team. Provide training, guidance, and mentorship to junior and senior team members. Allocate tasks and ensure project deadlines are met efficiently. Ventilation System Commissioning, Testing, and Verification

Perform detailed inspections, commissioning, and verification of ventilation systems, including operating theatres, isolation rooms, and treatment suites. Commission systems to ensure they meet design specifications, operational requirements, and healthcare standards. Test and document performance metrics, including air change rates, pressure differentials, filtration efficiency, and equipment functionality. Evaluate and calibrate systems to achieve compliance with industry standards such as SHTM03-01 and HBN guidelines. Compliance and Reporting

Analyse test results and generate comprehensive reports, including recommendations for remedial actions or system upgrades. Ensure ventilation systems align with design intent, user requirement specifications, and applicable healthcare regulations. AHU Maintenance and Optimisation

Conduct routine inspections and maintenance of Air Handling Units (AHUs), including cleaning, filter and belt replacement. Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve issues with AHU and all components, such as fans, dampers, heating/cooling coils, and heat exchangers, to ensure optimal performance. Support upgrades to AHUs, transitioning to energy-efficient systems such as electronically commutated (EC) or direct-drive plug fans. Equipment and System Optimisation

Assess the performance of ventilation components, such as AHUs, pressure stabilizers, fans, and filters, recommending repairs or upgrades to improve efficiency and functionality. Verify airflow rates, pressure cascades, and filtration systems during commissioning activities. Collaboration and Communication

Collaborate with estates teams, contractors, and clients to address ventilation-related concerns and coordinate remedial actions. Provide expert technical guidance on best practices for maintenance, commissioning, upgrades, and performance improvements. Technical Oversight

Assist in developing and reviewing standard operating procedures (SOPs) for ventilation system management. Integrate new equipment and tools, such as particle counters and hot wire anemometers, to enhance system evaluation and commissioning capabilities. Required Qualifications and Skills: Essential:

Proven experience in commissioning ventilation systems, ensuring compliance with healthcare and critical environment standards. Must meet the definition of a Competent Person as per SHTM03-01: "A person with sufficient technical knowledge, training, and experience to carry out their duties related to the ventilation systems in healthcare environments." Extensive knowledge of ventilation systems testing, commissioning, and maintenance in critical environments – CSA graded preferable. Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Microsoft Visio (preferred) for documentation and schematic interpretation. Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret technical data and provide actionable solutions. Excellent written and verbal communication skills for report writing and client interactions. Familiarity with tools such as micromanometers, anemometers, and particle counters. Experience in healthcare ventilation systems. Knowledge of energy-efficient technologies, such as electronically commutated (EC) fans. A full driving license is required. Additional Information: This role will require travel to various sites throughout the UK. A company van will be provided. Seniority level
