We are working with a friendly, independent mixed veterinary practice located in rural Mid-Devon. The practice consists of three main departments: Companion, Equine, and Farm. The team includes approximately 20 veterinarians and over 25 support staff. The small animal department operates from two Mid-Devon sites, providing first-opinion care with access to visiting specialists and surgeons when needed. Job Opportunity: Senior Small Animal Veterinary Surgeon The practice is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Senior Small Animal Veterinary Surgeon to join this close-knit team. This role requires a minimum of one year of experience in small animal veterinary practice. The position is based at a recently refurbished site, where the successful candidate will work alongside a supportive team of vets, RVNs, ANAs, and administrative staff. The ideal candidate will be responsible for delivering high standards of medical and surgical care to small animal patients while building strong, trusting relationships with clients. As part of the clinical team, they will work under the direction of the Clinical Director and receive day-to-day support from senior veterinary colleagues. Key Responsibilities Conducting 15-minute consultations, including thorough physical examinations and treatment plans (extended consultations are provided for complex cases or euthanasia). Advising on preventative health care for a variety of pet species. Performing medical workups and diagnostics as required. Carrying out routine and emergency surgical procedures within personal capabilities. Maintaining accurate and detailed patient records. Effectively communicating treatment options and plans with pet owners. Collaborating with the veterinary team to achieve the best outcomes for patients. Pursuing CPD opportunities in line with RCVS guidelines to stay abreast of advancements in veterinary medicine. Person Specification Membership of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons and eligibility to practice in the UK. Minimum of one years experience as a small animal veterinary surgeon. Excellent communication skills with both clients and team members. Self-motivated to deliver the highest standards of patient care. Compassionate, empathetic, and able to work independently and as part of a team. Proactive in expanding the range of small animal services offered, with special interests and enthusiasm encouraged.
