Small Animal Veterinary Surgeon
to join us at
Overdale Veterinary Centre
in Buxton. Overdale Veterinary Centre is part of a group of veterinary practices based in Derbyshire, with other sites being McMurtry and Harding Vets in Ashbourne and Wirksworth. The role would primarily be based at the Overdale branch in Buxton, but we occasionally help out at our partner practices.
Work Life Balance We are flexible and would consider both full-time and part-time applicants. The full-time role is based on a 40-hour week over 5 days, with the clinic open between 8:00 am - 7:00 pm. We offer a flexible rota between a 4-5 day week tailored to our vets' needs. The clinic is open on Saturday mornings (8 am - 2 pm), staffed on a 1 in 4 to 1 in 6 rota (depending on staffing levels). No OOH or Bank holiday working; our on-call is undertaken by Vets Now, which is a short distance away in Macclesfield.
About Us Overdale Veterinary Centre is based in the picturesque spa town of Buxton, nestled in the Peak District. The clinic has a classical feel, with the ethos of providing a high standard of clinical care to our clients across the board. We have 3 small animal consulting rooms (2 vet and 1 nurse), one dedicated operating theatre, an imaging suite (digital x-ray, ultrasound, and endoscopy, plus Dental x-ray arriving soon), prep area with dental facilities, and an in-house laboratory. We have separate cat and dog kennels.
We are currently a team of 4 full-time and 2 part-time vets, ranging from 1 year to 18 years of experience. We have small animal medicine certificate holders, with another in progress. This gives a wide breadth of skills and experience, enabling us to support and mentor new additions. We are a nurse training practice and have 3 full-time and 4 part-time qualified nurses, with several ECC certificate holders. Our dedicated front-of-house team manages reception.
With the Peak District literally on your doorstep, you can undertake a wide variety of outdoor pursuits in your leisure time, including rock climbing, cycling, angling, and walking. Buxton also benefits from the Buxton Opera House, which has a very good lineup. If you miss the big city, Manchester is only a short train ride away. There is a lot to do in Buxton, and we are a very social practice, frequently having nights out, BBQs, and weekend activities.
