External Trustees provide significant skills, expertise, and important continuity to ensure that the Board delivers its legal obligations and appropriate support for the CEO, staff, and other Board Members. A unique part of the Lay Trustee role in a Students’ Union is ensuring that Sabbatical Officers and Student Trustees are supported to have a positive experience as Board Members. Having the opportunity to work closely with first-time leaders is a real privilege.
The role will include:
Considering updates from staff and elected officers;
Reviewing management accounts and annual audited accounts;
Considering the organisational risk register;
Receiving performance reports and updates on the Strategic Plan.
The Person
The Trustee Board is seeking to appoint an individual who has the following skills and experience:
Has knowledge of the local business and public sector community in which the UWSU operates;
Has worked at a strategic level and who understands the importance of good governance;
Can exercise objective judgement and think creatively;
Is an excellent communicator;
Is highly motivated to nurture student leadership.
