If you receive an unsolicited offer from GOSH, please refer this immediately to recruitment@gosh.nhs.uk Job Title: Waste & Compliance Manager The Waste & Compliance Manager will act as the nominated lead specialist to the Trust and will also be responsible for compliance with all waste management policies and legislation. The post holder will have lead responsibility for managing the Waste Contract and the management of the on-site waste team responsible for operational management of waste services. They will provide specialist expertise on all aspects of waste management inclusive of recycling and sustainable development issues. Main Duties of the Job

Ensure waste compliance in relation to storage and segregation across the Hospital sites. Act as a focal point of contact at a multi-disciplinary level on all matters pertaining to waste management/recycling and segregation techniques and respond to specialist information requests as required. Promote and champion the overall concept of waste management at GOSH. Develop specific guidance documents and related information, and their promotion and promulgation utilizing training, website and publications. Continually assess and provide specialist advice on waste management performance at GOSH, developing key waste performance indicators and objectives and targets, management control plan, to improve overall performance, and monitoring standards achieved. Work closely with the site base Facilities and Floor Managers to coordinate regular internal waste audits of all areas within GOSH premises and operational activities, to ensure compliance with legislation and GOSH policies and procedures. Advise on and where appropriate, on recycling schemes. Also, carry out environmental impact assessments for Estate and Facilities developments. Research, develop, maintain, and monitor a comprehensive GOSH Waste Legislation Register, to ensure compliance with waste legislation, good practice, and approved codes of practice. Formulate and review long term corporate policy for reduce reuse and recycling to minimize waste produced within GOSH. Chair the Waste Committee and Waste Contract Meeting which will report to Health & Safety Committee. Prepare Strategic Outline Cases, Outline/Full Business Cases, Business Justification Cases regarding waste projects of a highly complex and technical nature. Ensure reports/findings are prepared, collated and presented relevant to their audience and these are effectively communicated using various mediums. Organize and/or attend meetings/workshops etc., deliver briefings and provide training sessions to raise awareness, educate and gather support for waste management and related services. Person Specification

Educated to Degree level; or equivalent qualification in a relevant topic (Waste Management, Environmental Management etc.) or equivalent knowledge and skills gained through any combination of alternative study and/or employment experience. Member of a relevant professional body (IEM.A, IHEEM, EMA, CIBSE, CIWM). Completion of Leadership development training and management qualification. PGDipM or equivalent. Evidence of continuing professional development. Knowledge

Understanding of principles, methods, techniques, and tools for effective service, project and contract management, service reviews and quality improvement. Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio & Outlook). Detailed understanding of Healthcare Waste Management Legislation, Regulations, requirements, processes and challenges. Skills/Abilities

Good leadership skills. Positive and proactive approach to problem solving. Ability to manage own workload and time, in response to changing demands. Important Notes
