Southern Water has a mandate to ensure that our 2.5 million water customers receive a continuous supply of fresh, wholesome drinking water. It’s an exciting time to join as we are currently transforming our Operational Control Centre and are seeking a Controller to join our diverse team.

Controllers form the backbone of the Water and Wastewater Services we provide to our communities. Without water, life as we know it would be impossible. Every day, we rely on it for drinking, washing, and cleaning. It helps create the energy we need for heat and light. It’s also essential to the products we enjoy and the natural world we depend upon. Water is undoubtedly the most important substance known to mankind; we operate in a water-stressed region and face significant challenges in balancing our need to provide water and protect the local environment.

As a Water Network Controller, you will be based at our Durrington office, working a 6-week rotational shift pattern that includes a range of 12-hour shifts: 3 days on, 7 days off; 4 days on, 7 days off; 3 nights on, 7 days off; and 4 nights on, 7 days off. The role comes with an attractive salary of up to £32,400 per year, depending on skills and experience, plus a 15% shift allowance and standby payments. We offer a comprehensive benefits package, including a company-related bonus, BUPA healthcare, and pension.

As a Water Network Controller, you will be responsible for managing all Planned and Reactive Events from start to finish on our water network. This involves coordinating with Operations and field teams, including our service providers, to ensure our customers have access to clean, high-quality drinking water. You will need to react quickly to situations that arise, thinking outside the box to ensure we maintain our customers' supply. You will be comfortable liaising with multiple stakeholders at all levels of our business, providing clear updates.

We are looking for individuals who enjoy problem-solving, analyzing, and working proactively using their initiative. The role is office-based, and suitable candidates should ideally be confident in working with multiple IT systems and possess strong telephone skills.

We are dedicated to ensuring that all candidates have an equal opportunity to showcase their skills and experience.

We Succeed Together Our customers are at the heart of everything we do because delivering water for life is our core purpose. To achieve this, we need 24/7 support in place to resolve incidents quickly and efficiently. All our employees understand the importance of out-of-hours incident support – because when problems appear, fixing them is our top priority. That’s why our people join together and support each other to ensure our customers receive the service they deserve. Joining the Southern Water family means you’ll become part of our incident support team. During your interview, your manager will speak to you about any incident support rotas that apply to your position.
