Summary

Are you a dynamic leader ready to take on a pivotal role in shaping the future of water and sewer operations in a thriving community? The Town of Shrewsbury is seeking a Water & Sewer Superintendent to lead, plan, and oversee the critical operations of our Water & Sewer Division.

The Town of Shrewsbury operates a municipally owned utility serving nearly 40,000 residents. Our water supply is derived from a series of gravel-packed wells, pumping over 4 million gallons of water daily. The water division supplies over 11,000 service connections through more than 200 miles of water main. The sewer division operates and maintains approximately 40 pump stations for over 165 miles of sewer main.

As the Water & Sewer Superintendent, you’ll manage the distribution, collection, storage, and treatment systems while ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations. From strategic planning and emergency response to budget management and community engagement, this position offers a challenging yet rewarding scope of responsibilities.

Your Key Responsibilities Will Include

Overseeing water production, treatment, and sewer collection systems. Managing budgets totaling almost $18 Million and procurement while controlling expenses and resources. Leading and developing a high-performing team of almost twenty employees with a focus on safety and efficiency. Representing the Town at regulatory meetings and engaging with the public on key matters. Driving strategic initiatives to optimize operations and enhance service delivery.

What You Bring

Expertise: A Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Science, Public Administration, Management, or a related field, with 7-10 years of progressively responsible experience in water and sewer operations, or any equivalent combination of education and experience. Certifications: Ability to obtain and maintain Grade 3 Drinking Water Operator Licenses (Treatment & Distribution) and Grade 4 Wastewater Certification (preferred). Leadership: Proven experience managing large teams and complex projects under various conditions. Communication Skills: Strong written and oral communication, including public speaking and professional presentations. Problem-Solving: Exceptional decision-making skills, particularly in emergency and regulatory contexts.
