Working for a global mobile and technology provider, we have a unique opportunity for an experienced Web Developer to join their Web Standards Team.

This is a permanent full-time role offering hybrid working - 3 days per week in their offices in Staines and 2 days remote working.

Are you passionate about the Web Platform? Do you want to contribute to the evolution of the Web Platform itself? Do you want to empower web developers to create great and enabling experiences for a diverse set of users - experiences that also keep users, and their data, safe?

We are looking for a dedicated Web Standards Technologist to contribute to the evolution of W3C and other relevant web standards, and to support content authors and the development community in building on those standards. We have broad interest across the web platform; areas of work could range from foldable device support, to interop, DX, Machine Learning, and beyond.

Working for one of the leading mobile web browsers with hundreds of millions of users worldwide, who are a major contributor to the Chromium open source project and to the development of future web standards.

The Web Standards Team drives Web strategy by: Leading the company's standardisation activities in W3C and actively contributing to future web standards. Engaging with the web development community to promote the Internet browser, web standards and capture future market requirements for browsers and the web. Providing strategic input to the company's development team to guide future development of the Internet browser and contributions to Chromium.

Role and Responsibilities: Represent the company, and actively participate in W3C standards activities. Contribute to the future direction of web standardisation in line with the company's browser and product roadmaps. Guide product strategy to align with the evolution of web standards. Engage with the developer community through blog posts, presentations at conferences, social media, and the production of developer documentation, to advocate for the uptake of web standards and Web Platform features. Develop prototypes to guide the development of the APIs, and demos using the APIs (with internal and external partners).

Essential Skills: BS or higher degree in Computer Science, Electronics, Natural Science, Mathematics, Engineering or any related discipline. Background in web development and good understanding of existing and emerging web standards - particularly those from W3C. Experience in JavaScript, HTML, Web APIs, the development toolchain and related technologies. Adept problem-solver, able to create high-quality solutions that meet constraints and required timeframes. An effective communicator able to present clearly and engagingly to diverse audiences at external events and conferences. Willingness to travel internationally to support business needs.

Desirable Skills: Experience of working in W3C standards/specification groups. Experience of writing technical blogs, contributing to podcasts and other social media communications. Knowledge of the mobile device and browser market. Familiarity with Android platform. Public speaking experience. Experience of engaging with the developer community. Other languages in addition to fluent English, written and spoken.
