Role overview

We are currently looking for a workshop controller to plan and co-ordinate workshop activity to meet customer requirements, maximise workshop utilisation and profitability, manage technicians, and work closely with the General Manager to achieve quality and customer care objectives.

Key responsibilities

Qualify the workshop requirements.

Communicate with all members of the workshop team to understand repair requirements and motivate technicians to achieve high-quality workmanship.

Control the flow of work through the workshop to ensure repairs are completed by the date and time given to the customer.

Report any additional damage found once a vehicle has been inspected, ensuring that all technicians complete the appropriate reports.

Complete MPI’s, service, and repairs to the manufacturer standard when required and agreed with the General Manager.

Use brand special tools where required and perform workmanship at the highest possible standard.

Ensure a customer’s vehicle has all the required protection used inside or on the vehicle during the repair process (i.e., seat covers to the front seats, floor mats, etc.).

Ensure customer vehicle condition report sheets are completed and mileage recorded.

Schedule work to meet customer requirements, taking into account workshop utilisation targets, job complexity, and parts/materials availability.

Act on opportunities to sell additional products/services and market current promotions wherever possible.

Look for cost control of products, usage, and time.

Co-ordinate workshop activity to deliver agreed work.

Coordinate with Aftersales to order parts and notify customers upon arrival to allow work to be scheduled and minimise parts stockholdings (WIP).

Print job cards with time estimates, detailing any special requirements, and distribute to the workshop – briefing technicians where appropriate.

Co-ordinate the valeting of the customer’s vehicle and any work to be sublet.

About You

As a Workshop Controller, you will ideally have the following skills and attributes:

Previous experience working as a Workshop Controller.

Strong managerial skills and the ability to control a workshop of technicians efficiently.
