A superb opportunity has arisen for an organised, personable and detail-focused Admissions Officer to join a highly regarded independent school in Reading. This is a key role for someone who enjoys working with families, thrives on organisation and communication, and takes pride in delivering a warm, professional service at every stage of the admissions journey.

The school offers a calm, high-expectations environment with a strong reputation for academic achievement and pastoral care. Admissions is central to the school’s success and community, and you will play a visible role in ensuring prospective families receive an excellent experience.

About the Role

As Admissions Officer, you will support the full admissions cycle—from enquiry through to enrolment—ensuring processes are efficient, accurate and welcoming.

Your responsibilities will typically include:

  • Managing admissions enquiries via phone, email and in person with professionalism and warmth

  • Coordinating school tours, open events, taster days and admissions meetings

  • Supporting application processing, references and documentation with excellent attention to detail

  • Maintaining accurate records on admissions systems and databases

  • Communicating clearly with prospective families about timelines, entry points and next steps

  • Liaising with senior leaders and teaching staff to support admissions decisions and assessment arrangements

  • Supporting marketing/admin tasks linked to recruitment of pupils (where appropriate), including event communications

  • Ensuring confidentiality and data protection requirements are followed at all times

This role suits someone who is confident with people, organised under pressure and able to manage deadlines in a high-standard environment.

The Team

You will join a professional, supportive team where service quality and communication matter. Admissions works closely with school leaders and wider staff to ensure a consistent, welcoming experience for families and a well-run annual cycle of events and deadlines.

You’ll work with colleagues to:

  • deliver high-quality open events and tours

  • maintain accurate systems and timely communication

  • support the school’s growth through exceptional service and organisation

About the School

This Reading independent school is known for high standards, excellent behaviour and a strong community culture. Staff work within clear systems and benefit from a professional environment where roles are respected and teamwork is valued.

Admissions plays an important part in the school’s identity and reputation, and the successful candidate will be trusted to represent the school with warmth, professionalism and discretion.

Key Information

  • Location: Reading

  • Start Date: ASAP / next term (or by agreement)

  • Contract: Full-time, permanent (or as agreed)

  • Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience

What the School is Looking For

The successful candidate will ideally have:

  • Experience in admissions, administration, customer service or a similarly people-centred role

  • Excellent communication skills and a professional, welcoming manner

  • Strong organisation and attention to detail

  • Confidence using IT systems (email, spreadsheets, databases/CRM-style systems)

  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion

  • Understanding of safeguarding and professional standards in an education setting (training provided as required)

School-based admissions experience is desirable but not essential for strong candidates with transferable skills.

Why Join This School

  • Professional role with visibility and genuine responsibility

  • Supportive team culture and strong systems

  • Varied work across events, communication and admissions processes

  • Opportunity to help families make one of the most important decisions for their child

  • Work in a calm, high-standard independent school environment

This is an excellent opportunity for an Admissions Officer who wants to deliver outstanding service and help shape a welcoming school community in a leading Reading independent school.
