CAD design engineer (sheetworks)
CAD design engineer focuses on produce 3d models and detailed manufacturing drawings for sheet metal components and assemblies using solidworks and sheetworks.
What the role involves
- Produce 3D models and detailed manufacturing drawings for sheet metal components and assemblies using SolidWorks and SheetWorks.
- Supporting senior engineers in the design and development of new products and bespoke fabrication projects.
- Maintain accurate design documentation, BOMs (bills of materials), and revision-controlled drawings.
- Apply design for manufacture (DFM) principles to ensure components can be efficiently produced using fabrication processes, including laser cutting, CNC folding, and welding.
- Collaborate with the production and manufacturing teams to resolve design queries.
- Contribute to design reviews, identifying opportunities to improve quality, reduce cost, and simplify manufacture.
Skills and requirements
- Must be able to pass a CAD test.
- Degree or HND/HNC in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related discipline or significant experience and proven ability in this area.
- Proficiency in SolidWorks for 3D modelling and technical drawing production.
- Experience with or strong understanding of sheet metal design principles (bend allowances, tolerances, material properties).
