Job description
We are working on behalf of a well-established UK university teaching hospital in the East of England that's expanding its Histopathology consultant team and offering genuinely flexible working patterns (including part-time and job-share options).
This is a substantive Consultant Histopathologist opportunity within a large, supportive department working in an oligo-specialist model. The team has strong digital pathology capability, protected SPA time, controlled workloads aligned to RCPath guidance, and excellent links with academia, teaching and research.

Role overview
• Substantive Consultant Histopathologist position
• Multiple posts available due to service expansion
• Based within a large, established cellular pathology department
• Oligo-specialist model: consultants typically work across 2–3 subspecialties
• Very open to shaping the role around the individual's interests and experience
Subspecialty interests
• Particular need / strong interest in:
o Paediatric & perinatal pathology (training support available if not fully established)
o Dermatopathology
o Gastrointestinal pathology
• Other subspecialty interests can be accommodated and developed
• Autopsy work is optional, not mandatory
Working pattern & job plan
• No on-call requirement
• Full-time, part-time and job-share actively supported
• Standard 10 PA job plan:
o Around 8–8.5 DCC
o 1.5–2.5 SPA, depending on role, audit, teaching or research activity
• Workload controlled using RCPath points-based exit allocation
• Strong emphasis on protecting SPA time
Department & facilities
• Purpose-built, modern histopathology facility (light, spacious, well-equipped)
• Full digital pathology already implemented to support:
o Flexible working
o Teaching
o Research
• Voice-recognition reporting and modern LIMS in place
• UKAS accredited laboratory (ISO 15189)
• Well-established BMS cut-up and advanced practitioner support
• Consultants have their own or shared offices with up-to-date IT
