Job description

Join Bracknell Forest Council as a Deputy Director of Public Health (Consultant in Public Health) and be at the forefront of transforming our community's health and wellbeing.

We are looking for an experienced and dynamic leader to drive innovative public health strategies, collaborate with partners, and inspire positive change. If you are passionate about making a difference, we want to hear from you.

About you...

The Deputy Director of Public Health (Insight, Partnerships and the Wider Determinants of Health) will support the Director of Public Health and lead the development, integration, and delivery of Bracknell Forest Council's public health duties across the organisation and wider health and wellbeing system. This will include providing expert advice to elected members and senior leaders, steering strategy development and delivery, advocating for evidence-based commissioning within the Council, NHS and wider system.

As Deputy Director of Public Health, you will lead the Public Health Intelligence portfolio, ensuring high‑quality data and insight drives local decision‑making.  This will include leading the development and implementation of the Joint Strategic Needs Assessment (JSNA) and Joint Health and Wellbeing Strategy (JHWS).  The portfolio also covers strategic leadership for Academic Public Health, strengthening partnerships with universities and research bodies, promoting evaluation, innovation and training, and embedding evidence‑informed practice.

The successful candidate will take a leading role on the wider determinants of health by working across the council and system partners on areas such as housing, planning, transport, employment, environment, climate change and community safety, advocating for a “health in all policies” approach to ensure health improvement and reducing inequalities remain central to organisational priorities.

If you are an experienced public health leader with strong strategic, analytical and partnership skills and you are excited by the opportunity to shape insight‑driven, system‑wide action on health and inequalities – we would be delighted to hear from you.

Applications are welcome from those included in the GMC Full and Specialist Register with a license to practice/GDC Specialist List or inclusion in the UK Public Health Register (UKPHR) for Public Health Specialists or are within 6 months of gaining entry to a register at the date of interview.

The role reports to the Director of Public Health and is dually accountable, professionally to Bracknell Forest Council and managerially to Bracknell Forest Council via the Director of Public Health.
