A flourishing independent school in Reading is looking to appoint an inspiring Teacher of English to join its successful and supportive team.

This is an excellent opportunity for a teacher who wants to focus on great teaching in a school where staff are genuinely valued. With small class sizes, engaged students, excellent behaviour, and a strong commitment to staff wellbeing, this is a role where you can enjoy teaching and maintain a healthy work-life balance.

The school has an excellent academic reputation, but what really sets it apart is its warm and respectful culture. Teachers are trusted as professionals, supported by approachable leadership, and given the freedom to teach creatively.

The Role

You will teach English across Key Stages 3 and 4, with the opportunity to teach Key Stage 5 depending on your experience and interests.

The English department is well-resourced, collaborative, and passionate about delivering lessons that spark curiosity and confidence. You will help students develop strong literacy skills, analytical thinking, and a genuine enjoyment of literature and language.

This role would suit an enthusiastic teacher who wants to work with motivated pupils, in a school where learning is valued and classroom teaching can be the main focus.

Why Teachers Want to Work Here

  • Strong staff wellbeing focus, with leadership that understands workload and balance

  • High-quality CPD and clear opportunities for career progression

  • Mark work and provide clear feedback that supports progress

  • Monitor attainment and adapt teaching where needed

  • Contribute to curriculum planning and departmental development

  • Support enrichment opportunities such as reading clubs, debating, drama, or creative writing

  • Play a positive role in the wider life of the school

About You

The school is looking for someone who is passionate about English and committed to helping students achieve their best. You will ideally have:
