Due to growing pupil numbers and increasing needs within EYFS, the school is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic EYFS Teaching Assistant to join their Early Years team.
Role Purpose
As an EYFS Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting children in Nursery and Reception, helping them to develop socially, emotionally, and academically. You will work closely with the EYFS Teacher and Early Years Lead to support learning through structured activities, free-flow play, and targeted interventions.
You will support children with a range of needs, including speech and language delay, SEN, EAL, and social or emotional needs, ensuring that every child feels safe, supported, and confident within the classroom environment.
Key Responsibilities
Support learning through play-based and child-led activities aligned with the EYFS framework
Work with children individually and in small groups to support communication, early literacy, numeracy, and personal development
Support children with SEN, including autism, ADHD, and developmental delays
Assist with phonics, early reading, mark-making, and number recognition activities
Promote positive behaviour, emotional regulation, and social skills
Support classroom routines including transitions, tidy-up time, snack time, and outdoor learning
Help create a safe, engaging, and inclusive learning environment
Observe, record, and contribute to assessments of children’s progress
Work closely with teachers, SENCO, and external professionals
Support children with personal care where required, in line with school policies
Maintain high standards of safeguarding and child protection at all times
The Ideal Candidate
The successful candidate will be caring, patient, and enthusiastic about early childhood education. You will understand the importance of consistency, routine, and emotional security for young children and be committed to inclusive practice.
You should ideally have:
Experience working in EYFS, Nursery, or Reception
Understanding of the EYFS framework and child development
Experience supporting children with SEN and/or EAL
A calm, nurturing, and proactive approach
Strong communication and teamwork skills
The ability to build positive relationships with children and adults
Formal qualifications are welcome but not essential—attitude, commitment, and experience are highly valued.
