Serving a richly diverse local community, the school places a strong emphasis on early intervention, emotional development, and high-quality EYFS provision to ensure every child gets the best possible start to their education.

The school’s Early Years Foundation Stage is a vibrant, well-resourced setting where play-based learning, communication development, and positive relationships sit at the core of daily practice. The leadership team is highly supportive and values Teaching Assistants as key contributors to pupil progress, wellbeing, and inclusion.

Due to growing pupil numbers and increasing needs within EYFS, the school is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic EYFS Teaching Assistant to join their Early Years team.

Role Purpose

As an EYFS Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting children in Nursery and Reception, helping them to develop socially, emotionally, and academically. You will work closely with the EYFS Teacher and Early Years Lead to support learning through structured activities, free-flow play, and targeted interventions.

You will support children with a range of needs, including speech and language delay, SEN, EAL, and social or emotional needs, ensuring that every child feels safe, supported, and confident within the classroom environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support learning through play-based and child-led activities aligned with the EYFS framework

  • Work with children individually and in small groups to support communication, early literacy, numeracy, and personal development

  • Support children with SEN, including autism, ADHD, and developmental delays

  • Assist with phonics, early reading, mark-making, and number recognition activities

  • Promote positive behaviour, emotional regulation, and social skills

  • Support classroom routines including transitions, tidy-up time, snack time, and outdoor learning

  • Help create a safe, engaging, and inclusive learning environment

  • Observe, record, and contribute to assessments of children’s progress

  • Work closely with teachers, SENCO, and external professionals

  • Support children with personal care where required, in line with school policies

  • Maintain high standards of safeguarding and child protection at all times

The Ideal Candidate

The successful candidate will be caring, patient, and enthusiastic about early childhood education. You will understand the importance of consistency, routine, and emotional security for young children and be committed to inclusive practice.

You should ideally have:

  • Experience working in EYFS, Nursery, or Reception

  • Understanding of the EYFS framework and child development

  • Experience supporting children with SEN and/or EAL

  • A calm, nurturing, and proactive approach

  • Strong communication and teamwork skills

  • The ability to build positive relationships with children and adults

Formal qualifications are welcome but not essential—attitude, commitment, and experience are highly valued.

The school offers excellent professional development opportunities, including training in:

  • EYFS best practice

  • SEN and inclusion

  • Behaviour support and emotional regulation

  • Safeguarding and child protection

There is strong potential for progression into SEN roles, HLTA positions, or teacher training pathways.

What the School Offers

  • A supportive and experienced EYFS team

  • Strong leadership and clear EYFS vision

  • Well-resourced indoor and outdoor learning spaces

  • A diverse, welcoming school community

  • Ongoing CPD and career development opportunities
