Humanities Graduate Teaching Assistant – Durham
ASAP start, £95 to £105 per day, ideal for recent graduates considering teaching.
Just graduated with a Humanities or English degree and wondering what's next? Teaching Personnel is recruiting graduates to work as Teaching Assistants in secondary schools across Durham. This is an excellent opportunity to gain hands on classroom experience while earning competitive pay and figuring out if teaching is the right path for you.
You'll support students in English, History, Geography, or other Humanities subjects, work alongside experienced teachers, and get a genuine feel for life in secondary education. Whether you're certain about pursuing a PGCE or just exploring your options, this role gives you valuable experience that strengthens future applications.
What you'll be doing:
- Supporting students in Humanities and English lessons
- Delivering 1:1 and small group interventions to help students with literacy, comprehension, and essay writing
- Assisting teachers with classroom activities and resources
- Helping students who struggle with reading, writing, or understanding key concepts
- Building positive relationships with students and staff
- Gaining classroom experience that's invaluable for PGCE applications
You need:
- A degree in English, History, Geography, Politics, or related Humanities subject
- Passion for your subject and working with young people
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Patience and adaptability
- Willingness to learn and develop
- Previous experience with children or young people is helpful but not essential

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
