As Nuclear Health Physics Monitor you will plays a critical role in implementing and supporting radiation protection programs across the site. You will ensure full compliance with regulatory standards and internal safety procedures, helping to safeguard employees, the public, and the environment from exposure to ionizing radiation.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct routine contamination and radiation surveys of personnel, equipment, and facilities.
  • Provide radiological coverage for routine and non-routine jobs in radiologically designated areas.
  • Ensure compliance with ALARP principles.
  • Help implement site radiation protection procedures and controls.
  • Perform air sampling, smear sampling, and bioassay collection as required.
  • Perform daily operational checks on radiation monitoring instruments and report any faults for timely maintenance or calibration.
  • Support decontamination and radioactive waste handling activities.
  • Document survey results and maintain accurate radiological records.
  • Work in collaboration with the Health Physics Supervisor, providing on-the-job support and guidance to colleagues regarding radiological safety practices.
  • Provide training and guidance to personnel working in designated areas.
  • Respond to radiological incidents and support emergency response operations.
  • Qualifications and Experience:

  • NVQ Level 2 in Radiation Protection or equivalent qualifications in a science/engineering-related field.
  • Ability to obtain SC level security clearance (this includes but is not limited to conducting identity, employment, financial and criminal record checks plus verifying 5 years' worth of UK residency).
  • Basic working knowledge of mathematics.
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience working as a Health Physics Surveyor/Monitor.
  • Basic knowledge & understanding of instrumentation for nuclear operations including waste disposal & recycling.
  • Experience carrying out functional tests of radiation protection monitoring instrumentation using calibrated radioactive sealed sources.
