Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA)

Start date: August 2026

Salary: Grade 8, Points 15

Hours: 32.5 hours per week, 39 weeks per year TTO

Contract: Permanent

Location: Glen Hills Primary School

Glen Hills is a welcoming, community centred school where every child is valued as an individual. Our motto, “education today for tomorrow”, shapes the way we work every day. We are proud of our friendly, happy atmosphere, our strong relationships with families, and our dedicated staff who work together to make the school a place where children feel safe, confident and excited about learning. We place a strong emphasis on excellent teaching in English and Maths, but we also believe in developing the whole child emotionally, socially, academically and personally.

From August 2026, we are looking for a high quality HLTA to join our experienced team and help us continue delivering the strong outcomes and nurturing environment at Glen Hills. This role is ideal for experienced HLTAs seeking a new challenge, or for qualified teachers who enjoy teaching and working with children but are looking for a role with a different balance of responsibilities. It allows you to focus on high quality classroom delivery and supporting learning, without the wider workload associated with a full teaching post.

What the role involves

This is an important role within our classroom team. You’ll deliver whole class teaching across the school (both timetabled and ad hoc), support small group learning, and contribute to interventions that help children make the best progress possible. You’ll do this without the formal planning and assessment expectations of a teaching post, but with the same high standard of care, consistency and professionalism.

We’re looking for someone who:

  • Has experience as an HLTA, or is confident teaching whole classes when the teacher is not present.
  • Has strong skills in English and Maths.
  • Understands primary education well — especially KS2.
  • Can support our children effectively and contribute to targeted interventions.
  • Holds high expectations for behaviour, effort and progress (our pupils are polite, caring and well behaved, and we’re proud of that culture).
  • Works well as part of a team and contributes positively to our school community.
  • Can be flexible and adaptable (every day in school is a little different!).
  • We would be delighted to show you around Glen Hills. The best way to understand our school is to see our enthusiastic children and our calm, purposeful environment in action.

Please contact the School Business Manager on office@ glen-hills.leics.sch.uk to arrange a visit during the school day.

    Interview date: W/C 04 May 2026

Shortlisted candidates will be contacted by email or phone after the closing date.

    Safeguarding Statement

Glen Hills Primary School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. All appointments are suject to enhanced DBS disclosure (formerly CRB) and reference checks.
