Independent Reviewing Officer focuses on maintaining responsibility for a caseload of allocated children and young people as their named independent reviewing officer.

What the role involves

  • Maintaining responsibility for a caseload of allocated children and young people as their named Independent Reviewing Officer.
  • Ensure children's wishes, feelings, and lived experiences are central to all review discussions.
  • Provide independent oversight and constructive challenge where care plans, interventions, or professional actions are not achieving positive outcomes.
  • Act as a key liaison point between Children's Services and partner organisations involved in care planning.
  • Supporting the development of policies, procedures, and practice guidance relating to looked after children.

Skills and requirements

  • Professional Social Work qualification (BA Social Work, MA Social Work, DipSW, CQSW or equivalent).
  • Significant post-qualification experience within Children's Social Care.
  • Registration with the Social Work England.
  • Extensive experience working with looked after children, child protection, safeguarding.
