Position:

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Maintenance Craftsman (Plumber) within our Estates Department based at University Hospital Ayr.

Hours:

From 1 April 2026, the working week for NHS Agenda for Change staff in Scotland will be reduced. Full-time hours will reduce from 37 to 36 hours (pro rata for part-time staff) without loss of earnings.

37 per week (8.00am to 4.30 pm Monday to Thursday and 8.00am to 1.00pm Friday)
With the requirement to participate in an on-call rota

UK Driving Licence:

A UK car licence is essential to this role.

What you will do:

Following completion of a recognised apprenticeship and having gained extensive experience in this field, you will be part of a team reporting directly to the Plumbing Supervisor, responsible for the delivery of engineering services within a hospital environment and across community premises. You should be able to demonstrate versatility and experience on a range of complex plumbing maintenance work task schedules in addition to being an effective communicator.

Knowledge, training and/or experience required to do the job:

A City & Guilds Craft Certificate/Level 3 Certificate, or equivalent for the trade is essential.
Experience in building services within a hospital environment including the control of Legionella in hot and cold water systems would be an advantage.

You will also be required to take part in an on call rota and be able to work at other hospitals within Ayrshire to meet the demands of the service. Due to the requirement to participate in an on call rota it is desirable that the successful applicant should live no more than 30 minutes travelling time from the hospital.
