What the role involves
- Care needs, and opportunities for single‑handed care.
- Apply advanced manual handling knowledge to prescribe, demonstrate, and implement suitable moving and handling equipment, assistive technology, and adaptations.
- Care coordinators to plan, trial, and implement safe reductions in double‑handed care where appropriate.
- Provide expert training, guidance, and risk management advice to carers, families.
- Support staff in the safe use of equipment and handling techniques.
- Ensure all interventions uphold least restrictive practice principles, promoting independence and dignity while maintaining safety.
Skills and requirements
- Qualified and HCPC‑registered Occupational Therapist with a solid background in community practice, rehabilitation, and manual handling.
- Extensive knowledge and practical experience in manual handling and equipment provision.
- Care agencies, and other professionals to achieve positive outcomes.
- Understanding of least restrictive practice principles and how these relate to independence, dignity, and safeguarding.
