Principal Coastal Engineer

The Principal Coastal Engineer position centres on preparing briefs, scopes of work, and input into bid proposals. It would suit someone who can bring technical judgement, safe working habits, careful diagnostics, and practical problem-solving to the role.

Where the work sits

Leading a team to undertake technical design work following relevant design standards and codes, and to high-quality levels. Design experience of coastal structures such as flood defences, sea walls, breakwaters, revetments and beaches to appropriate codes and standards such as BS6349, Eur.

Engineering work involved

Preparing briefs, scopes of work, and input into bid proposals. Successfully manage time and budgets to key project milestones and programmes. Work closely with teams in the UK and overseas to deliver integrated design solutions.

Technical skills and requirements

• The ability to plan and direct others in the use of numerical modelling to simulate wave propagation, tidal flows hydrodynamics etc.
• Experience in leading design delivery, including multidisciplinary design.
