About the role

The project will develop a computational framework to identify multiorgan disease from imaging ( computed tomography) and clinical data. The framework will leverage ideas from disease progression modelling, unsupervised/semi-supervised learning, and transfer learning to disentangle the contributions of individual pathologies to non-specific biomarkers.

The post holder will work closely with Dr Joseph Jacob and Dr Alexandra Young and national and international collaborators. International travel for conferences and lab visits is expected in order to share knowledge and facilitate access to datasets relevant to the project. The post holder will also be required to collate, curate and process relevant data sets; experience with data processing and management, and image processing is desirable. In addition to these technical aspects, the post holder will be expected to disseminate research activities via journal publications and conference presentations and contribute to consortium coordination and team-building activities.

Appointment at Grade 7 is dependent upon having been awarded a PhD; if this is not the case, initial appointment will be at Grade 6B (salary £39, - £40,85 per annum) with payment at Grade 7 being backdated to the date of final submission of the PhD Thesis.

This role is funded until 31st October in the first instance.

About you

The postholder will focus on developing advanced image analysis, modeling, and inference tools to enhance understanding of chronic lung diseases, collaborating with researchers at UCL Respiratory and internationally on new methods across diverse datasets. Key responsibilities include designing research proposals, coordinating outreach and engagement efforts, and ensuring timely reporting to funders. They will also contribute to teaching, mentor junior researchers, and support multidisciplinary projects within the department. In maintaining professional and ethical standards, the postholder will adhere to UCL policies, contribute to quality assurance, and engage actively in departmental activities, including seminars and public events. They are expected to attend and present at conferences, help secure funding, support group organization, and act as a role model for students and junior staff, all while maintaining high standards of research conduct and interpersonal professionalism.
