We are recruiting a Resettlement Worker who is creative and inventive and who can identify opportunities to help positively change peoples’ lives. You will have a strong ability to self-organise and can communicate well, with an understanding of the various difficulties that homelessness and rough sleeping brings. You will ideally have knowledge around housing and housing support needs. You will be a confident and self-managing kind of person who enjoys working within a strong and varied team who believe in personal ability to change. You are at your best when no two days are the same. Self-reflection, listening, asking questions, courage and empathy are the key skills we are looking for. In return the team will provide you with structure, support, and encouragement to do the best job you can do! Each day will be different, but frequently include:

- Conducting outreach visits to people sleeping rough across Torbay.
- Helping source suitable accommodation for people and assisting them to move in.
- Signposting or directly connecting people with other services.
- Attending multi-agency meetings to coordinate support and manage any risk.
- Keeping records up to date.
- Playing an active role in a wider system of support.

The role sits within the Resettlement Team, which is part of the ASB and Vulnerability Team, which is in Torbay Council’s Community Safety Department. Your immediate teammates work includes Tenancy Sustainment, ASB and statutory nuisance investigations, provision of Town Centre Officer service, coordinating support for people with complex needs. The wider departmental teams include Safer Communities, Housing Options, Housing Standards, Licensing, Emergency Planning, Corporate Health and Safety, Food Standards Team and Environmental Protection. Together we cover a lot of areas of work which we find both interesting and varied – we hope you do too!
This post meets the requirements for an Enhanced Criminal Record Check. This will show spent and unspent convictions and adult cautions which have not been filtered in line with legislation, plus any information held by local Police that is considered relevant to the role.
This position is for a fixed term until 31st March 2027.

Skills
Essential:
- Effective communication skills.
- Relationship building.
- Accurate record keeping.
As this post meets the requirements of the Immigration Act 2016 (part 7), the ability to converse at ease with members of the public and provide advice in accurate spoken English is essential for the post.
Knowledge
Essential:
- Working knowledge of the causes of homelessness.
- Working knowledge of vulnerability, including addiction, mental ill health, domestic abuse and sexual violence.
Experience & Qualifications
Essential:
- Educated to GCSE standard or equivalent.
- Experience of working with vulnerable adults and homelessness.
- Experience of positive partnership working.
