About the Setting:

We are seeking dedicated Secondary and Post‑16 Teaching Assistants to join a highly respected specialist provision in Rochdale, which includes both an on-site secondary school and a variety of external post‑16 pathways designed to support students as they transition into adulthood.

This forward‑thinking provision supports young people aged 11-19 with a wide range of needs, including autism, learning difficulties, physical disabilities, medical needs, and sensory impairments. Their post‑16 offer extends beyond the main site, giving students access to real‑world learning environments, community-based programmes, and vocational opportunities that promote independence, employability, and life skills.

Secondary & Post-16 Teaching Assistant Role and Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-to-one and small group support to pupils across secondary and post-16 classes.
  • Assist teachers in delivering personalised learning programmes and ensuring pupils can access the curriculum effectively.
  • Support the development of independence, life skills, and social engagement.
  • Help implement individual education plans (IEPs) and EHCP targets.
  • Work closely with the school team, families, and external agencies to ensure a nurturing and inclusive environment.
  • Secondary & Post-16 Teaching Assistant – What We’re Looking For:

  • Experience working with young people with SEND, ideally in a school, residential, or community setting. A calm, empathetic, and proactive approach to managing behaviour
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills
  • A commitment to helping pupils achieve independence and life success.
  • A relevant qualification in support, care, or education is desirable but not essential
  • Secondary & Post-16 Teaching Assistant – To Be Eligible You Must:

  • Hold the Right to Work in the UK
  • Have an enhanced child barred list DBS on the update service (or be willing to apply)
  • Be able to provide two professional references (child-related preferred)
  • Please submit your up-to-date CV to be considered. Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted.

Prospero Teaching is acting as an employment business/education recruitment agency for this vacancy. Safeguarding and child protection are at the heart of everything we do – all candidates must undergo the relevant vetting checks before starting work.
