Job overview

2 Part time position - x1 20 hours per week & x1 34.3 hours per week

We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Children’s Nurse to join our Children’s Emergency Department team.

We’re looking for enthusiastic, committed and hardworking individuals who are eager to develop their skills and thrive in a fast-paced environment.

If you work well under pressure, enjoy learning, and are passionate about delivering excellent care, we would be delighted to hear from you.

You will provide the highest standard of evidence-based, patient-centred care. You will also have a genuine passion for education, training and the development of staff, recognising the positive impact this has on the children and families we care for.

Most importantly, you will share our PRIDE values and our ongoing drive for improvement.

Our busy Children’s Emergency Departments operate across two sites — Queen’s Hospital in Romford and King George Hospital in Goodmayes — providing a wide range of paediatric and surgical services to our local communities. As some of the busiest Children’s EDs in the country, we are continuing to grow our team so we can offer the best service possible.
As part of our expanding CED team, you’ll have opportunities to build your knowledge, update your clinical skills, and be supported by Matrons, Practice Development Nurses and the wider MDT.

Main duties of the job

§To support the Matron and Senior Multi-Disciplinary Team to ensure that high quality patient focused care is delivered within the Children’s Emergency Service.

§To actively participate in the day-to-day clinical and operational management of the department.

§Act as a clinical leader and role model whilst providing direct quality patient care, sharing expertise with colleagues.

§To work within the CED team on professional nursing issues and management of clinical governance issues

§The post holder will be required to work flexibly to achieve the key responsibilities of the post.

§Guiding the activity of nursing, medical and other staff to ensure rapid assessment, treatment and ultimately transfer/discharge of children and young people.

§Participation in educational and training programmes for junior members of the team, including acting as a preceptor to newly qualified nurses.

§To lead a team of nurses with line management responsibilities

§To work alongside colleagues within the Children’s Directorate to collaborate on projects and shared learning

§To take a leadership role for an aspect of care and represent the department in Trust Wide Forums contributing to and leading on Quality Improvement projects within this area

Working for our organisation

We’re an organisation that is getting better and better and our improvements are driven by a determination to deliver care we’re proud of and our patients are happy with.

They are benefitting from a new electronic patient record (we were the last acute trust in London to introduce one) and our maternity services have been rated good by the Care Quality Commission.

We operate from two main sites – KGH in Goodmayes and Queen’s Hospital in Romford. We have two busy emergency departments with more than 346,000 people visiting them last year. We’re campaigning to secure the £35m we need to transform the A&E at Queen’s and get rid of corridor care.

We’re proud of our regional Neurosciences Centre, Radiotherapy Centre and Hyper Acute Stroke Unit. We’re also part of the North East London Cancer Alliance.

We run a Women’s Health Hub in Ilford; an Ageing Well Centre in Hornchurch; and Community Diagnostic Centres (CDC) at Barking Community Hospital and at St George’s Health and Wellbeing Hub. These CDCs are open 12 hours a day, 7 days a week.

The majority of our 8,400 staff – who come from 146 different countries - live in the three diverse London boroughs we serve and are from black, Asian and minority ethnic groups. Many can work flexibly and more than 400 of them are on our Ofsted accredited apprenticeship programmes. We’re proud to be a London Living Wage employer.
