What the role involves
- Planning and delivering personalised, differentiated lessons tailored to pupils with SLD and complex needs.
- Using multi-sensory teaching approaches, including visual aids, Makaton, PECS, and interactive learning strategies.
- Implementing and reviewing EHCP targets, working closely with SENCOs and external professionals.
- Monitoring and assessing pupil progress using appropriate frameworks (e.g. EHCP outcomes, small steps tracking).
- Creating a safe, structured, and engaging learning environment.
- Working collaboratively with teaching assistants, therapists, and wider support staff.
Skills and requirements
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) – Desirable.
- Experience working with pupils with SLD, PMLD, or complex needs (school-based or alternative settings).
- Strong understanding of SEN practices and personalised learning approaches.
- Excellent behaviour management skills, with a calm and nurturing approach.
