My client is a supportive and dynamic special needs school dedicated to providing high-quality education and therapy to children with a range of learning disabilities, communication difficulties, and additional complex needs (Autism population). Our mission is to empower every student to reach their full potential in a nurturing and inclusive environment. We are currently seeking a compassionate and skilled Speech and Language Therapist to join our multidisciplinary team to help our students develop essential communication skills and improve their quality of life.


Role Overview:

As a Speech and Language Therapist, you will work closely with students with diverse Special needs, especially autism spectrum disorders. You will provide tailored therapy and interventions to help students improve their speech, language, and communication skills, and work collaboratively with teaching staff, parents, and other professionals to deliver an integrated support plan for each student.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Assess and diagnose speech, language, and communication difficulties in students, using a range of formal and informal assessment tools.
  • Develop and implement individualised therapy plans for students based on their specific needs and goals.
  • Provide direct therapy sessions, both one-on-one and in small groups, using evidence-based approaches and strategies.
  • Collaborate with teachers, teaching assistants, and other specialists to ensure a holistic approach to each student's learning and development.
  • Offer advice, training, and support to school staff on how to implement speech and language strategies within the classroom environment.
  • Work closely with parents and carers, providing regular updates on progress and offering guidance on how they can support communication development at home.
  • Monitor and evaluate student progress and adjust therapy plans as needed to ensure maximum effectiveness.
  • Contribute to the development and delivery of whole-school initiatives to support communication and language development across the school.
  • Keep detailed, up-to-date records of assessments, therapy sessions, and progress reports.


About You:

We are looking for a passionate and committed Speech and Language Therapist who has:

  • A recognised qualification in Speech and Language Therapy (e.g., degree in Speech and Language Therapy).
  • HCPC (Health and Care Professions Council) registration as a Speech and Language Therapist.
  • Experience working with children and young people with special educational needs, particularly those with communication challenges (experience in special needs, AAC and working with Autism Population is essential)
  • A solid understanding of evidence-based interventions and strategies for speech and language therapy in a special needs setting.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to engage with children, parents, and professionals.
  • Patience, empathy, and the ability to work effectively with children who may have a range of behavioural and emotional needs.
  • Excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage a diverse caseload effectively.
  • A flexible and team-oriented approach, with a willingness to contribute to the wider school community.
