We are seeking a compassionate, organised, and proactive Welfare Officer to join a good-rated secondary school in Oldham. This is an essential pastoral role, providing support to students’ wellbeing, safeguarding, and personal development. The successful candidate will play a key part in creating a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment for all students.

Role Overview:
As Welfare Officer, you will work closely with students, parents, and staff to support wellbeing initiatives, attendance, and pastoral care. You will be responsible for monitoring student welfare, offering guidance, and helping to implement strategies that promote positive behaviour and personal development. Your work ensures students feel supported and valued, contributing directly to their academic and social success.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitor student welfare, attendance, and behaviour, providing guidance and support where necessary.

  • Work with students to address personal, social, or emotional issues and provide appropriate support or referrals.

  • Liaise with parents, carers, and external agencies to ensure students receive the support they need.

  • Support safeguarding initiatives, maintaining accurate records and following statutory procedures.

  • Contribute to the development of pastoral policies and programmes.

  • Assist with organisation and delivery of wellbeing initiatives, assemblies, and workshops.

  • Collaborate with teaching and support staff to ensure a holistic approach to student welfare.

  • Maintain confidentiality and ensure compliance with data protection and safeguarding policies.

Skills and Experience:

  • Experience in a pastoral, welfare, or support role, ideally within a school or youth setting.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to relate to students of all ages.

  • Organised, proactive, and able to manage multiple responsibilities.

  • Understanding of safeguarding procedures, confidentiality, and child protection requirements.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.

  • Commitment to promoting a positive, inclusive, and safe environment for all students.
