Workshop Shift Manager focuses on managing the daily operations of the workshop, ensuring all maintenance, repairs, inspections, and mot testing activities are completed efficiently and to required standards.

What the role involves

  • Managing the daily operations of the workshop, ensuring all maintenance, repairs, inspections, and MOT testing activities are completed efficiently and to required standards.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant legislation, Road Transport Law, Vehicle Operator Services Agency (VOSA) requirements, and the Council's Operating Licence obligations.
  • Manage a team of approximately 14 operational staff, ensuring effective resource allocation and workforce performance.
  • Overseeing the timely completion of planned maintenance, unscheduled repairs, vehicle inspections, and MOT testing programmes.
  • Managing a service budget of approximately £750,000, ensuring financial targets, efficiencies, and income generation objectives are achieved.
  • Monitor workshop policies, procedures, and safe systems of work to support operational excellence.

Skills and requirements

  • GCSE Grade A*-C (9-4) in English and Maths (or equivalent).
  • Vehicle Technician qualification (or equivalent) or extensive demonstrable experience managing a vehicle workshop.
  • IOSH qualification or equivalent Health & Safety qualification.
  • Significant experience managing a vehicle workshop, fleet maintenance facility, or garage operation.
