Industrial Mechanical Maintenance Technician
Job description
About the role
We are looking to recruit a Mechanical Maintenance Technician to join our Maintenance and Reliability team, supporting sites across the Essex area. If you enjoy variety, responsibility, and working with cutting‑edge equipment, this role offers the chance to make a real impact every day.
No two days are the same. You’ll use your skills in fault diagnosis and preventative and proactive maintenance to improve plant performance, availability, and reliability. At Northumbrian Water Group, you’ll work on a wide and varied asset base, providing excellent opportunities to develop and specialise in areas such as pumping and control systems, chemical dosing and condition-based maintenance including Vibration analysis and ultra sonic lubrication application.
This is a fully mobile role, with a company van, tools, and equipment provided—your working day starts and finishes from home. You’ll take part in an out‑of‑hours standby rota, with full training and support to help you succeed. Competitive additional payments are made for standby duties, callouts, extra hours worked and specialist modules.
At Northumbrian Water Group, we invest in our people. You’ll benefit from tailored training packages, long‑term career development, and genuine progression opportunities within a supportive and forward‑thinking team.
About you
You MUST be a time-served Mechanical Technician, educated to at least ONC / NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering. You will have experience in maintenance environments, including reactive breakdowns and planned maintenance, and be able to manage your workload effectively with minimal supervision.
You will be confident in reading and fault-finding from Mechanical drawings, identifying root causes and repairing or replacing faulty components.
We are looking for someone with a positive, can-do attitude, a willingness to learn and an openness to new ways of working. A hands-on, practical approach, combined with a keen eye for diagnosing issues and implementing effective solutions, is essential.
You will have good communication skills, work well as part of a team, and demonstrate a strong commitment to Health and Safety, aligned with our Everybody Home Safe Everyday culture.
A full UK manual driving licence is essential for this role.
